First written mention of Sopronhorpács is from 1220 as Hurpach. In 1446 as Puztahorpacz, from 1906 Sopronhorpács. It is the property of the Nádasdy family from 1536, then its granted to the Széchényi family in 1677.

The Roman Catholic Church of Sopronhorpács is consecrated as Saint Peter and Paul. It was built as the parish church of the village in the 12th century and was rebuilt in the 13th century as the private church of the Osi family, possibly the richly adomed Romenesque western gate is also of that time.

The church was rebuilt several times during the centuries, following a fire In the 16th century, after the Turkish era and in 1737. The last renovation was between 1957 and 1960.

The Baroque mansion of the Széchenyis was built between 1772 and 1773.
